Alex J. Balian has been an owner/operator and consultant in the retail and supermarket industry for over thirty five years. He has testified in municipal, state, and federal courts as an expert in all aspects of retail store operations, with an emphasis on a store level perspective. Mr. Balian is currently active in the retail industry and keeps current with the customs, standards, and practices it entails. The focus of expertise examines closely the internal day to day operations of a retail store. Then, the procedures and policies of the store are identified to determine whether they are consistent with the standards of the retail industry. Finally, and most importantly, they are evaluated, and it is determined if the store implemented the appropriate procedures on the day of a given incident. After this process is completed, it can then be determined if the store operated within the accepted customs and practices of the industry and on whom fault should be attributed.
